After a rather thought Sunday, we went on another sightseeing expedition on Monday. My and Roger went with Bob to his workplace “Bishops college” and got the nickel tour presented by Bob himself, our as he called it “Bring your Viking to school-day”. We saw the Gym, fitnessroom and the beautiful art exposition of the schools pupils. We also meet some of Bobs pupils, or “The Mob” as he calls them.
Then we went to the “Trade” witch is a shop for Salvation Army accessories. Some of my fellow bandsmen bought or ordered uniforms or other artifacts.
The next stop was St.Johns big museum “Two Rooms”. This is part art gallery, part Nature-historical museum and part City archives. I saw a very interesting exposition of Anne Hathaway Berry. She’s a local painter specializing in motives from New Foundland. Her pictures reminded me of the Laura Veirs cover of the Carbon Glazier album, I have to cheek that when I get home.
After lunch in Two-Rooms we were driven the long way (two minutes) down to the Town Hall to meet the deputy-mayor of St. Johns. We had to wait for him for over an hour before he let us in to the Council Hall for a short meet-and-greet.
After this highly political important meeting Roger and me went to “ Signal Hobbies“ witch is a shop for autocontrolled cars and other autocontrolled equipment. .Our good friend Larry Purdy took us there, but it close to early for us to get in. a sad day for Roger indeed, since we went on the road the next day before it opened again. Larry took us to “Freds” instead, our favorite local music shop.
Then in the evening Bob took us to his local Supermarket and showed Roger their local store for autocontrolled vehicles. We bought a couple of golfballs, autocontrolled of course.

On Sunday the 23rd we were on sevice
duty at the St.Johns Temple. This ment playing at the holinessmeeting at 11 o’clock and on the eveningmeeting at 19. Since we already were there we also played at nursing home in between.
Me and Roger managed to eat dinner at the Richie house with guests: My father (as always in nynorsk) his billets and a friend of the house, Elisabeth. This was one of our most fun meals ever because everybody spilled something on the tablecloth, it was hysterical and I guess you had to be there to see the fun….
On Saturday we went sightseeing i St. Johns with our own tour guide and saw the major sights: Like "Signal Hill" (the first place that sent radio signals to Europe) and Cape Spear (The eastliest point i America). We look at Government house (Residence of the Queens Lieutenant Governor in Newfoundland) and at the basilica of St.John the Baptist. More on the sights you can find at: www.NewfoundlanLabrador.com
After been tourists we went for the ultimate American experience "The Mall". We were warned by Bob about this but we couldn't let it be. . .
My father has that life philosophy that everybody understands him speaking Nynorsk (one of the two official Norwegian languages). Therefore he speaks Nynorsk to everyone he meets. So this episode took place at The Mall.
Me and my father took the escalator when three teenagers was making noise and bumped into us. My father turned around and said "Ka i all videste væra held di på med guta?" (Which is: What in the world are you doing guys). The boys went completely silent and took a step back from this madman. My father turned to me and said: "There you go, my son. Everybody understands Nynorsk, didn't I tell you?"
It was a long journey from Askim to St.Johns, in Newfoundland It took approx. 20 hours before we could hit the sacks and get some sleep sleep. Me and my friend Roger (who plays the trombone) are hosted by our favorite Canadian family "the Riche family". They are: Bob, Jacob, Ben, Scruffy and in charge of it all Arlene.
